Description
1080nm Auto-Darkening Laser Welding Helmet
The 1080nm Auto-Darkening Laser Welding Helmet is a dedicated protective helmet designed for laser welding applications with the xTool MetalFab system. It combines 1060–1090 nm laser protection with an automatic-darkening lens, adjustable fitting, cushioned padding, and a flip-up visor design to provide a practical protective solution for compatible laser welding workflows.
Designed for the xTool MetalFab, this helmet features laser protection rated up to OD 8+ according to xTool’s product information. Its automatic-darkening lens uses two sensors to detect changes in ambient light and adjust the lens tint, helping reduce glare during welding operations.

1060–1090 nm Laser Protection
The 1080nm Auto-Darkening Laser Welding Helmet is designed around the wavelength range associated with compatible laser welding applications. xTool specifies laser protection for 1060–1090 nm wavelengths with up to OD 8+ and identifies the helmet as compatible with the xTool MetalFab Laser Welder and CNC Cutter.
The protective lens is intended to provide the specified wavelength coverage while allowing the operator to maintain visibility of the working area. As with any laser-welding protective equipment, users should follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions and ensure that the helmet is appropriate for their specific laser system and operating conditions.
Automatic-Darkening Lens
The helmet features an automatic-darkening filter equipped with two sensors. These sensors detect changes in ambient light and allow the lens to adjust its tint during operation.
xTool specifically recommends setting the GRIND adjustment between positions 5–9 when using the helmet for laser welding. The manufacturer notes that laser welding sparks and brightness can be less intense than those produced during conventional welding, so an excessively dark setting may reduce visibility.
The automatic-darkening system is therefore designed to balance protection and visibility during compatible welding work.
Large Viewing Area and Optical Clarity
The 1080nm Auto-Darkening Laser Welding Helmet uses an auto-darkening and laser-protection lens measuring 8 × 10 cm. xTool specifies 1/1/1/1 optical clarity, providing a clear viewing area for observing the workpiece during welding.
The larger lens area can make it easier to maintain a view of the working zone while the helmet is being worn. The visor can also flip upward by 180°, allowing the operator to inspect the work area when active welding protection is not required.
Adjustable Fit
The helmet includes three adjustable knobs that allow the user to adjust the fit according to head size and preferred positioning.
The adjustment system is designed to help keep the helmet securely positioned during use while allowing the visor angle and headband fit to be customized. The support documentation identifies adjustment points for the visor position and headband tightness.
Comfortable and Lightweight Design
At approximately 560 g (1.23 lb), the 1080nm Auto-Darkening Laser Welding Helmet is designed to remain relatively lightweight while providing the protective features required for compatible laser welding applications.
The helmet also includes thick sponge padding around the forehead and ear areas. xTool describes this padding as providing additional comfort, absorbing sweat, and helping prevent the helmet from slipping during use.
180° Flip-Up Visor
The visor can be flipped upward through 180°, providing convenient access to the working area when the protective viewing position is not required.
This feature can be useful when switching between active welding and inspection tasks. The operator can raise the visor to inspect the workpiece and lower it again before continuing compatible welding operations.
Durable PP and PC Construction
The 1080nm Auto-Darkening Laser Welding Helmet uses PP and PC materials in its construction. xTool identifies these materials as part of the helmet’s durable design and resistance to normal wear and tear.
The combination of the protective visor, adjustable structure, padding, and lightweight construction provides a dedicated helmet design for compatible MetalFab laser-welding applications.
