Description

The xTool P3 5W IR Laser Add-on Module is the powerful infrared (IR) laser upgrade engineered exclusively for the xTool P3 flagship 80W CO2 laser cutter/engraver, unlocking professional-grade metal engraving and precise marking on materials that standard CO2 or blue diode lasers can’t handle effectively. This modular 1064nm IR laser head transforms your xTool P3 into a versatile dual-laser system: switch seamlessly between high-power CO2 for deep cutting thick wood, acrylic, and more, and the 5W IR module for detailed, high-contrast engraving on metals and plastics.

Featuring a 5W output1064nm ±1nm wavelength, ultra-fine 0.03mm spot size (red indicator), 4ns pulse width25-30kHz repetition rate, peak power up to 65KW, and single pulse energy >0.14mJ, this air-cooled module delivers exceptional speed (up to 1000mm/s engraving, 300mm/s scoring) and crisp results across a massive 650mm × 426mm working area (with max material height 180mm). It excels at permanent, fade-resistant marking on uncoated/stainless steel, aluminum, brass, copper, titanium, chrome, anodized metals, and various plastics — ideal for industrial parts, tools, jewelry, promotional items, custom hardware, signage, and personalized gifts.

Key Features

  • Laser Type: Infrared light, with a beam divergence of 1.5 mrad (IEC 60825-1 Default evaluation C6=1).
  • Output Power: Maximum 5W.
  • Red Indicator Laser: 0.39 mW, with a spot size of 0.03 mm for precise positioning.
  • Pulse Operation: Emits laser pulses at a frequency of 25–30 kHz (not continuous wave).
  • Processing Area: 650 mm × 426 mm.
  • Maximum Material Height: 180 mm.
  • Maximum Speed: Engraving up to 1,000 mm/s; scoring up to 300 mm/s.
  • Lifespan: Theoretically about 8,000 hours.
  • Size & Weight: 136.5 mm × 94.5 mm × 92.5 mm; 850 g.
  • Hot-Swapping: Supported, but frequent plugging/unplugging is discouraged to avoid port damage.
  • No Extra Power Supply Needed: Powered by the xTool P3.
  • Firmware Requirement: Requires firmware version 40.23.005 or later for operation (details).
  • Included Accessories: Module fixture, focus block (calibration block), cardboard, grease, hex key, screws, user manual.

Applications

The xTool P3 5W Infrared Module is designed for:

  • Scoring and Engraving (not cutting) on a wide range of materials, including:
    • Gold
    • Brass
    • Leather
    • Fabric
    • Rubber
    • Cement
    • Stone
    • Anodized metal
    • Stainless steel
  • High-Precision Marking: The small spot size (0.03 mm) allows for detailed and fine engraving, especially on metals and plastics.
  • Batch Production: The large processing area and high speed make it suitable for batch engraving tasks.

Limitations

  • Not for Cutting: The module does not support cutting any material.
  • Not for Mirror-Finish Metals: Processing mirror-finish metals is not supported due to the risk of laser reflection and module damage.
  • No Color Engraving or Embossing: The module cannot color engrave or emboss metal materials.
  • Processing Modes Not Supported:
    • Use conveyor feeder
    • Curved material
    • Auto mode of rotary attachment

Installation & Use

  1. Installation: The module is mounted onto the xTool P3’s guide rail and connected to the pre-installed laser module. Protective covers must be removed and kept for storage.
  2. Calibration: Before use, perform z-axis and x/y-axis calibration using the included focus block and art scratch paper. This ensures accurate processing positions (calibration guide).
  3. Software: Use the latest xTool software, select the 5W Module as the laser head, and follow the recommended settings for best results.
  4. Maintenance: Lubricate rollers with the included grease if sliding becomes difficult. Tighten all screws if engraving results become blurry.

Troubleshooting

  • No Laser Output: May be due to overheating; pause and allow the module to cool before resuming.
  • Module Not Recognized: Update software and firmware to the latest versions.
  • Fan Not Working: Unplug and replug the connection cable after a short wait.
  • Blurry Engraving: Ensure the module is securely fastened.
